Somerville Learning 2030

Your voice is needed!

You have probably noticed materials or notices about Somerville Learning 2030 events. Somerville Learning 2030 (SL2030) is a visioning process to identify the Somerville community’s priorities for learning experiences and youth development, both inside and outside of the classroom. This is very much a listening process and the month of November is dedicated to hearing as many voices as possible.

Did you love something about learning in your childhood or teens and wish everyone could benefit from that practice? Do you have a great idea about a learning experience that you want to see happen right here? This is really our chance as a community to dream big for the youth of Somerville.

Somerville wants to hear from parents, guardians, community members, business owners, students and anyone else living and/or working in Somerville. There are several ways to provide input. The easiest and fastest way to bring ideas to the table is to take the quick SL2030 Survey. Take the survey in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.

You can also participate in the remaining Community Visioning Session November 13, 2018. These moderated discussions will lead to a collection of data to share with the SL2030 team. If attending one of these sessions is not feasible, consider hosting your own Focus Group. There are guidelines on the SL2030 website for sharing ideas between friends, community members or any group, then recording those ideas and sharing them with the SL2030 team.

What happens once we get all this great information?

The Somerville Learning 2030 steering committee will analyze all the responses collected from the Survey responses, the Community Visioning Sessions and the Focus Groups. This information will then be posted on the SL2030 website for anyone to read.

In the words of Susana Morgan, Director of SPS Communications and Grants, “This is the first step in identifying the community vision with regards to learning. With this information, we will identify the community priorities and then we can work on strategies for getting to what the community of Somerville envisions for the year 2030.”

The Somerville Learning 2030 visioning process is a city-wide collaboration between Somerville Public Schools, the City of Somerville and community partners. To learn more, please visit the Somerville Learning 2030 website.
