Students eat lunch in their classrooms. They are supervised by adult lunch monitors during lunch and recess in the schoolyard. Students may purchase school lunch or bring lunch from home. The lunch menu can be seen on the SPS website.
4)  Q What special subjects are available to my child?
A
Elementary students in Somerville attend Art, Music,Gym and Library classes on site. These classes are once a day for forty minutes. The Brown does not have a Gym. Gym classes are held outside, weather permitting. When cold or inclement weather happens gym classes are held in the Library. It is unique, but it works.
5)  Q How do parents contact staff?
A
You may call the Brown and speak with the Secretary, Mrs. Diaz, and leave a message for your child's teacher. If you are an email person check with your child's teacher to see if that would be a convenient way to communicate. The Principal, Ms. Seward can be contacted by phone at 617-625-6600 x6400 or via our web-based contact form, which sends an email directly to her.
6)  Q How will I be notified about my child's progress?
A
Students receive report cards four times a year. There is an Open House at the beginning of the year where teachers present an overview of their grade level curriculum and classroom routine. There are three Parent Teacher Conference nights. During these conference times parents are able to meet with the teacher to discuss the progress of their individual child. Should you need to meet with the teacher beyond these four times you can always call to schedule an appointment. The school calendar for the year is usually sent home the first week of school in September with these important dates noted. Do not be nervous about asking questions about your child/children......we want you to.
7)  Q Will my child have access to technology?
A
Yes. Every classroom in the Brown School has Internet access (supervised by the teacher). Every classroom has groups of computers for student use. Students from the Kindergarten to grade 6 learn how to use computers to help them with their learning. Students will research, practice their skills in content areas - Math, ELA,Science,Social Studies, create technology based projects-Powerpoint Presentations.
8)  Q How do I find the online link to Destiny/Online Library Catalogue?
A
