HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD LEARNING A NEW INSTRUMENT
BE PRACTICING Students should be practicing a minimum of three to five days a week, at least ten minutes. We structure classes to model good practicing at home, so they can practice exactly what we do in class. Have them play for you: - while you’re cooking - during TV commercials - while you’re folding laundry . . . any time at all!
BE POSITIVE At the beginning, those instruments can make all kinds of sounds! Encourage your child, give positive feedback, and allow them to play for you, your family, and friends, no matter what the occasion. BE PATIENT AND PERSISTENT “Slow and steady wins the race.” Progress looks and sounds different for each student. If your child becomes frustrated, assure your child that this is normal, and ask us for help! BE PRESENT Show your child that you support their efforts: attend their concerts and rehearsals, bring lots of friends and family, cheer loudly, and give them a big round of applause! |
