The Somerville School Committee has made a priority of investigating how to develop and implement an arts integration effort in the Somerville Public Schools. This is driven by the goals of wanting to have more time for creative expression during the school day, and wanting to engage students' right brains in the pursuit of competence in core subjects like science and math.

During the 2008-2009 school year a Scholar from the Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University researched and developed a report on arts integration to serve as a blueprint for promoting stronger arts integration in the Somerville Public Schools. This report is under consideration by the Somerville School Committee, the Visual Arts and Music Departments, and a team of community advisors.
