Family swim is a time where children can enjoy the pool. If the child is 6 years or younger they need to have an adult in the water, within arms distance, at all times; this is regardless of their swimming abilities or level in swimming classes. The majority of the time family swim is held in the small pool only.
-
Although, the big pool is not guaranteed to be opened, when it is open a child may use lane 1 in the pool if they can pass our swim test (given only at the top of every hour) or if they have already passed our swim test (and can show us their name on our list of children who have successfully passed the test). If a child has a parent with them they still need to pass the swimming test in order to swim in the big pool.
-
During family swim, pending space, adults are welcome to use a water aerobic belt and do stretching, exercises, or running. At no time may you transition into swimming any stroke.
-
If you would like to bring a flotation device for your child it must be made out of foam only, blown up devices, "air", are not permitted.
-
Y
ou may bring your own safe toys that will not harm the pool or others, however you and your child must understand that their are other children in the pool.
-
I
f your child is not potty trained they must wear a disposable swimming diaper that fits properly with a bathing suit over it.
-
A
ll patrons must wear a bathing suit to enter the pool, street clothing is not permitted.
-
To ensure the safety of the Kennedy Pool, Lifeguards have the final say over all patrons; this includes time outs and verbal warnings.

During family swim we do not guarantee access to the big pool.
-
When the big pool is offered...
In order to swim in the big pool each child must take our swim test given ONLY at the top of the hour. You must take the test regardless of a parent accompanying you, your swimming lessons level, or any other reason. Once you have completed the test we write your name down on our passed list and each time thereafter you must show the guard your name on the list to enter the big pool. The test consists of: swimming the full crawl stroke with rotary breathing for 1 length, swimming the backstroke for 1/2 a length and treating water for 2 minutes. You may not stop at any point, touch the wall, or swim with you head straight up. The lifeguard has the final say on the child's ability to swim the strokes in a competent manner. You may attempt to take the test 1 time per day. We do NOT guarantee big pool access during family swim. This is at the discretion of management.
No air floatation devices will be permitted.
-
Family swimmers are required to put shoulder length hair in a ponytail
-
There is NO LAP swimming during family swim allot times (although their is a 7-7:30pm weekday overlap and Saturdays, the designated family swim areas will still remain lap swimming free).
