Volunteers are an integral part of SCALE's educational program, providing assistance in morning and evening ABE, ADP, GED, and ELL programs. Volunteers represent an invaluable resource to SCALE staff and students and provide tutorials and classroom assistance in all departments. The contribution of volunteers enables SCALE to provide more individual and small group instruction than would otherwise be possible. Our volunteers are a diverse group, including college students, homemakers, former teachers, white- and blue-collar workers, and retirees. With each passing year, students, teachers, counselors, support staff, and administrators gain a new appreciation for the many gifts and talents our volunteers share with us. It is our goal to do everything possible to make the volunteer experience a rewarding one.
Our next volunteer orientation session will be at SCALE on Monday, January 7th from 6:30-8:30pm. During this session, we will give you a thorough overview of SCALE and try to answer all of your questions. We will arrange for nights 2 and 3 of your training following the completion of night 1.
At this time, the ABE/ASE Department needs one writing volunteer for Thursday morning, two writing volunteers for Wednesday evening, a math volunteer on Monday evening, and a math volunteer on Tuesday evening. The ELL Department needs a volunteer for a high beginning class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We hope that you will be interested in one of these assignments.
Please email Volunteer Coordinator Susan Riley with any questions.
