Friends of SCALE supports the mission and vital work of the Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences (SCALE). Friends of SCALE board members will be asked to:
  • Advocate - be champions in building the constituencies necessary to support SCALE.
  • Invest - become stakeholders in the work of SCALE by investing financially and otherwise.
  • Consult - provide valuable counsel to SCALE by using particular skill sets on behalf of the organization.
  • Fund - assist in bringing financial resources to SCALE.

The mission statement of the Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences (SCALE):

Our primary purpose is to provide an education to adults who lack basic academic and vocational skills. To accomplish this mission, SCALE offers programs in ABE, ASE (both GED and ADP), and ELL, at its primary location and at satellite locations in the community, including workplace sites. SCALE will provide an environment where students feel accepted, respected, and supported. SCALE staff will demonstrate a strong commitment to the individual's continuous growth and personal fulfillment. Within this environment, students will experience success because they actively participate in the process. The wealth of experience adult learners bring to the learning situation and the emphasis on direct involvement of students in the formulation of their own goals, define the SCALE philosophy. By helping students help themselves, SCALE contributes to the betterment of students, their families and the community.
