Parents and Community

Effective education requires a partnership between schools, community and families. At the East Somerville Community School parents/guardians are encouraged to be involved in school life through school events hosted regularly, like talent shows and student performances, through the PTA (parent/teacher association) and/or the Unidos Parent Organization. Together these groups provide active support to the school, and host monthly parent coffees and family events. The PTA funds field trips and activities for all grade levels. Older students provide leadership as Reading Buddies, Science Buddies, Student Council, and in the Beautification Club, and a before-school Homework Help center. Parents/guardians can also get involved in the school community through the School Improvement Council.
