About SCALE

SCALE's mission is to:

  • Provide a wide range of educational services to respond to the learning needs of adults of all ages.
  • Partner with adult students in goal setting and the learning process as they endeavor to reach their full potential as productive citizens, workers, and family members.
  • Foster a multi-cultural environment where students feel accepted, respected, and supported.

The staff at SCALE has a strong commitment to the individual student's continuous growth and personal fulfillment as well as to her/his concrete academic skills improvement. SCALE provides a mature and supportive climate in which students feel accepted and respected. Within this environment, students can experience success because they actively participate in the learning process. Both the wealth of experience adult learners bring to the learning situation and the emphasis on direct involvement of students in the formulation of their own goals makes the SCALE learning situation unique. By helping students help themselves, SCALE contributes to the betterment of students, their families, and the community. By helping students help themselves, SCALE contribute to fostering an environment that supports the cultural diversity that is a cornerstone of American life. We do not tolerate intimidation of or discrimination against any group.

SCALE is funded in part by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Somerville Public Schools, the City of Somerville, various other grants, and private donations.
