Welcome to the World Language Department
Somerville High School students at the annual Multicultural Fair

The Somerville Public Schools, along with The Partnership for 21st Century Skills, is devoted to helping young people build 21st century skills through a variety of initiatives. One theme focuses on the understanding of other nations and cultures, including the use of non-English languages. Our World Language program is built on one of the greatest strengths of our community - the cultural and linguistic diversity of our students and their families. The World Language Department, led by Jim Nocito, endorses the research that shows that students who learn another language reach higher academic performance, display greater cognitive benefits, and develop a more positive attitude toward the target language and the speakers of that language.
