What do I need to bring on the first day?

When will children be dismissed?

What is the dismissal procedure?

What if I have a babysitter or other relative who will regularly pick up my child?

On the first day of school we will ask you to fill out a list of people who are authorized to pick up your child from school. If one of these people comes instead of you we may ask for identification to safely verify your child can leave with this person. People cannot be added to this list by telephone, nor can anyone NOT on the approved list pick up your child from school. We hope you understand this is a system for protecting your child's safety.

What if I'm late picking up my child?

Please call us to let us know you will be more than 10 minutes late, 617-629-5480. Teachers and other staff will generally wait outside with students for 5 or 10 minutes. If all students haven't been picked up by then, they will be brought back inside the building.

Is the Capuano Center a peanut-free school?

You will learn on the first day of school if your child has been assigned to a peanut-free classroom. If your child is in a peanut-free classroom we ask that you not bring any snacks with peanuts in them. You will be given information on healthy, peanut-free snack options. There are no peanuts or groundnuts used in any meals - breakfast, lunch or snacks - prepared by Somerville's award-winning Food and Nutrition Services Department.

I have important medical information I need to get to the nurse. When can I do this?

On the first day of school our school nurse will be available to talk with you, learn about your child's needs, and accept any medication forms and medications.

Can I give my child's physical forms to the School Nurse?

No! These forms need to be delivered immediately to the Enrollment Office. If the Somerville Public Schools does not have this information on file your child cannot start school.
