Student working with young children

The Somerville High School Early Education and Care Program is available to all students that are interested in pursuing a career working with children. The students learn and practice theory and methods of teaching in the classroom. They create lesson plans, keep an internship journal, design a classroom setting, along with many other activities. The EEC program partners with many schools and daycares throughout the City of Somerville allowing the students opportunities for hands-on learning. This gives them the experience and skills needed to transition into the field of education or a career path in their chosen field. Students who complete all the requirements in the Early Education and Care Program can become eligible through the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) to receive certification. Our students are excited and enthusiastic and continue on to post high school education to broaden their career choices in Early Education and Care.
