SHS Chorus
The Somerville High School Chorus is directed by Ms. Mosby. Students have several opportunities to perform and compete throughout the year.
SHS Band
SHS Band is an instrumental ensemble of students who perform music from a variety of different cultures and styles (rock, classical, contemporary, and jazz). During the school year, the group performs at football games, parades, competitions, festivals, and concerts. Through rehearsal and performance, students learn instrumental technique and develop knowledge of instrument mechanics. The course is designed to progressively develop musicianship through practice in a supportive community of students.
SHS Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble is open to all students interested in playing different styles of jazz (Latin, fusion, rock, salsa, and funk), while collaborating with other schools in our region. Evening rehearsals prepare students for school concerts and jazz festivals around Massachusetts.
SHS Orchestra
Making music is everyone's birthright, so we welcome absolute beginners as well as experienced players, no audition necessary. Each one of you is a valuable member of the whole, so the more effort you make, the better the orchestra will sound. We focus on individual technical improvement, peer mentoring in class and in elementary schools, and orchestral performance in a variety of musical styles. Orchestra meets during the school day. There is also an Honors Orchestra.
