School Administration

What makes WHCIS unique?

The Winter Hill Community Innovation School is the Somerville Public School district's only Innovation School, which includes limited self-governance and a deliberate and innovative approach to the student needs. We are home to the PK-8 mainstream classes, Grades 6-8 English Language Learners, and Somerville students with special education needs in grades K-8. WHCIS was the 2017 winner of The Pozen Prize for Innovative Schools at The Boston Foundation. Read how we support our students in the case study about our innovative practices.

School report card

The Winter Hill Community Innovation School regularly reports demographic and student progress data to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). This data is used to develop the annual No Child Left Behind progress report card for the WHCIS School. The 2023 Winter Hill School Report Card is available on the DESE website.
