Register for Athletics

Ready to join a Highlander team? Whether you’re returning to your favorite sport or trying something new, athletics are a great way to stay active, build friendships, and show your school spirit. Before you hit the field, court, track, or pool, be sure to complete the registration and athletic clearance process. Follow the steps below to get cleared and ready for the season!

Athletic Clearance

All student-athletes must be cleared by the Athletics Department before they can participate in practices, tryouts, or competitions. The athletic clearance process helps ensure that students are medically eligible to participate and that families understand the responsibilities and risks associated with school athletics.

Athletic clearance is valid for one sport season only and must be completed each season a student plans to participate.

Before participating in athletics, each student-athlete must have a current physical exam on file with the Athletics Department, in accordance with MIAA and DPH requirements. Students should attend their required medical clearance event with their online registration completed, a physical exam dated within the last 13 months, and the SWAY Medical App downloaded for baseline concussion testing. If a student-athlete requires an EpiPen or inhaler, families should contact the school nurse and submit the appropriate medical forms before the start of the season.

Avoiding Delays

To avoid delays, complete the following steps in order:

  • Attend a required medical clearance event.
  • Register online through Arbiter Registration.

How to Register Online with Arbiter Registration

Somerville High School uses Arbiter Registration for our athletics registration process. The site is translated into Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole for the convenience of parents, guardians, and students. Please allow 15-20 minutes to register each child for a sport.

A parent or guardian must complete the registration process for each student-athlete.

  1. Visit the Arbiter Registration site and log in or create an account. New users will receive a confirmation email. Be sure to click the link in the email to activate your account (check your spam folder if needed).
  2. Returning users can log in and continue with registration.
  3. Select the appropriate sport season and complete the required forms. Be sure to click “Save and Continue.”
  4. Review and confirm your registration. You will receive a confirmation email once registration is complete.
