Intra District Transfer
Families may request an intra-district transfer when their circumstances or a student’s educational needs change. Common reasons include changes in family circumstances, such as childcare or transportation needs, or seeking a school environment that better supports a student’s academic, social, or emotional needs. All transfer requests are reviewed based on district guidelines and available space.
To request a transfer to a different school within Somerville Public Schools, families must complete an Intra-District Transfer Request Form (available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole). Requests for the 2026–2027 school year will be accepted beginning April 1, 2026. Completed forms may be emailed to Herenia Hernandez or Colleen Flynn or dropped off at the Enrollment Office, located at 167 Holland Street, third floor.
Families who submit requests by May 22, 2026 will receive a decision by the second week of June. Requests submitted after that date will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Families will be notified of decisions by email; if a request is denied, the student will be placed on the waitlist for
Please note, intra-district transfers will be accepted between April 1, 2026 and November 1, 2026. Transfers will not be issued after November 1, unless it is in the best interest of the child or school.
