Somerville Public Schools offers a continuum of learning experiences from kindergarten through high school, with opportunities for every student to discover their interests, develop their strengths, and prepare for their next chapter.
Looking ahead to 2027?
Somerville Public Schools will open its 2027-28 enrollment portal in early January. We highly encourage incoming Kindergarten families to attend a 60-minute information session either in-person or virtual to learn more about Kindergarten enrollment:

Kindergarten Enrollment
Somerville Public Schools offers Kindergarten at all schools serving Grades K–8, as well as at the Michael E. Capuano Early Childhood Center. The Kindergarten school day runs from 8:10 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. (with early release on Wednesdays). Children must be 5 years old by August 31, 2026, to be eligible for Kindergarten enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year.

2026–2027 School Year Enrollment Portal is OPEN
Grades 1-8 Enrollment
Families preparing to enroll in Somerville Public Schools will need to provide required information and documentation, including proof of residency and required health records.
2026–2027 School Year Enrollment Portal is NOW OPEN
Grades 9-12 Enrollment
Families preparing to enroll in Somerville High School will need to provide required information and documentation, including proof of residency and required health records.
Students who are enrolled for the next school year by mid-May will be able to meet with a high school counselor in June to learn more about SHS and to request their courses. Counselors will reach out to newly-enrolled students’ families to schedule these meetings. Families who enroll after the mid-May deadline will be contacted in mid- to late-August to schedule a meeting with their counselor to build their schedule. All SHS students, including those already enrolled, can view their schedules online starting in late August before the start of school.

Things to Consider

After-School. When enrolling your child with SPS, be sure to ask about after-school programs for young children. These opportunities can fill up quickly, so we encourage families to review these options well before school begins.
