Families with Young Children

The Somerville Family Learning Collaborative (SFLC) offers free programs to help Somerville families support their young children’s learning, development, and school readiness.

From multilingual playgroups and parent support groups to home visiting programs and developmental screenings, SFLC connects families with resources and guidance from infancy through preschool. Families can also explore tips and resources to prepare for preschool and Kindergarten.

Playgroups & Parent/Guardian Support Groups

Playgroups & Parent/Guardian Support Groups

SFLC provides multilingual playgroups focused on early learning, social-emotional development, and parent-child interaction. Parent support groups are offered for expectant parents, caregivers of infants, and families of twins or multiples. Programs are free for Somerville residents and are offered at locations throughout Somerville.

Somerbaby

SFLC works closely with the SomerBaby Home Visiting Program to support new families during the early months of a baby’s life. This is a free program for Somerville residents. Contact Maria Holz at 617-549-1690 or mholz@somervillema.gov.

ParentChild+ Home Visiting Program

The ParentChild+ Home Visiting Program supports families with children ages 18 months to 4 years by building early learning, literacy, and school readiness skills. Multilingual ParentChild+ Home Visitors meet with families twice a week to help parents strengthen their role as their child’s first teacher. For more information, contact Fernanda Villar, Director of SFLC Early Beginnings Family Support Programs.
