Multilingual Learning
Somerville High School provides specialized pathways to support Multilingual Learners at different stages of their academic journey. Multilingual Learners are students who are in the process of developing their fluency in the English language. Our programs offer targeted language development, academic support, and flexible options to help students achieve graduation and prepare for future success.
GOAL Program
The GOAL Program supports older English Learners who are significantly behind in credits and need an alternative pathway to graduation. Students receive English language instruction, foundational coursework, academic and social-emotional support, flexible scheduling, and transition planning. After progressing through SHS and SCALE, students complete required coursework and assessments to earn their high school diploma.
English Learner Intensive
Designed for students balancing significant personal or family responsibilities, this pathway provides a flexible schedule while maintaining progress toward graduation. Students take SHS courses with reduced schedules, receive regular check-ins and academic support, and have access to tutoring and additional learning opportunities.
SAFE for SIFE Program
(Students Accessing Formal Education)
SAFE supports students with interrupted formal education by providing a structured transition into the SHS curriculum. Students receive targeted academic preparation, English language development, social-emotional support, and skill-building through the SAFE Daily Seminar, along with access to tutoring and extended learning opportunities.
