The Somerville High School English Department develops students’ critical thinking, communication skills, and confidence through the exploration of diverse texts, media, and perspectives. Students strengthen their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills while learning to analyze the world around them, engage in meaningful discussions, and advocate for themselves and others. Through thoughtful study of literature, informational texts, and digital media, students build the skills needed to navigate a changing world and become lifelong learners.
Requirements
To graduate, a student must pass four years of major English courses: English 1, 2, 3 and 4 or an Advanced Placement course in lieu of an English course or an ELL course.
