The West Somerville Neighborhood School (WSNS) focuses on developing strong student writers who can synthesize thinking, express creativity, and build the skills needed to become independent, self-sufficient adults who contribute responsibly in a global society. Serving grades K–8, the school uses differentiated instruction, assessment, technology, and interdisciplinary projects to extend and strengthen student learning. WSNS fosters a strong culture of achievement, supported by social-emotional learning through the Second Step curriculum (K–8), extended library/media access (K–8), and a wide range of afterschool enrichment opportunities. Students also engage in experiences such as a school-wide science fair (K–8), tutoring support, and college exposure programs, while upper grades participate in initiatives like Kids to College at Tufts University (grade 6) and the citywide Math League (grades 6–8).
